Breakthrough in Travel Safety For Faraway Tourists
By Roger Munns

Singles and couples aren’t the only people looking for adventurous vacations any more. More families are taking steps toward vacations that keep the adrenaline pumping. The British Government has launched a new travel safety program to assist in safer, or at least more documented, travel for all. The program seems to be doing quite well with about 54,000 tourists signing up since its launch in May.

The idea behind the program is to allow travelers to register their itinerary to allow loved ones to know where they are in the case of an emergency. Until now, natural disasters left family members wondering about the health and safety of their loved ones. This new program allows travelers to register their whereabouts online within moments. In the case of a natural disaster or emergency, the British Embassy will know where and how to contact the tourist and their family.

Adventurous Vacations

Adventurous and exciting vacations may be found nearly anywhere in the world. Whitewater rafting, sky diving, mountain climbing and rock scaling are a few very popular adventure vacation opportunities that families take advantage of each year. Many tourism consultants and companies now include adventure vacations to the possibilities available to their clients.

Rafting and Kayaking

Whitewater rafting is becoming one of the most popular family vacation ideas for families that crave excitement and adrenaline on vacation. Safety precautions include brightly colored life vests for everyone on the raft. While whitewater rafting is not recommended for families with small children, teens and young adults love the white-knuckled thrill of the ride.

Sea or ocean kayaking is generally considered safer than whitewater rafting because it generally takes place on a lake, sea or in the ocean. Occasionally the kayaker finds himself in white water as well. Specific safety precautions should be followed in the event the kayaker becomes lost or injured.

Mountain Climbing, Rock Scaling and Volcano Climbing

Long hikes, camping and mountain climbing are near the top of the list of adventurous vacations for families with teens. Families are encouraged to take out mountain climbing insurance and take classes before attempting actual climbs. Long climbs are usually broken up into several days to ensure safety precautions are being followed.

Although danger could be imminent, there are those adventurers who enjoy traveling to active volcanoes. Whether it’s the adventurous photographer trying to get that perfect shot of an active volcano or someone who enjoys the thrill of climbing a volcano, climbing volcanoes is almost as popular as mountain climbing and rock scaling. Some of the more popular volcanoes are Fiji, Pu’u O’ Vent and in Guatemala, the duo Acatenango Fuego climb.

Jungle Safaris

Families with small children and teens are booking more jungle safaris each year. Jungle safari vacations are quickly becoming some of the world’s most popular family vacations. Usually the family is in the relative safety of a tour bus or jeep and can witness the rigors of jungle life from their seat or through the lens of a camera. Many families with children use a jungle safari vacation as an educational resource.

Safety First

No matter where your adventurous vacation takes you, always let someone know where you are and how to find you in case of emergencies or natural disasters. As an adventurous individual, you understand that your vacation requirements are a bit out of the ordinary. Do your family and friends a favor and register your itinerary with someone trustworthy.
